Concert Review: Elsewhere Gets Heated With Geneva Jacuzzi

Sometimes, I wish I was more publicly weird, and I do not mean that in a weird way. I mean that in a way of almost liberation. On my way to see Geneva Jacuzzi, my friend and I did what is probably one of the biggest signs we have a true friendship: we pretended to have British accents and be a pair of dames from Bridgerton on our subway ride. It was WAY TOO FUN! WAY TOO EASY IN VIBE! And, in some ways, overdue! I  wondered why I was never just crazy and kooky all the time like, Geneva Jacuzzi.

Using vivid lighting and costumes, Geneva presents her shows like a live-action, avant garde art display worthy of the Louvre. I first saw Geneva a few years back and to say her show is not a spectacle is an understatement. If she’s got a splash blood like Ozzy Osbourne or get fairy wings the size of Texas to swish around the stage she will, but what I found interesting was the groundedness of her performance, as if, like a butterfly, she is ready for her most transformative stage: stardom. Her hunger and visionary quality makes her radiate like a Greek Goddess over her 80s-like synth sounds and her overall messages of authenticity, fun, and mysticism. Yet, as she says, ¨Art Is Dangerous.¨

As she dominated the stage like a dominatrix, ready to whip it into submission, her vision for herself was clear and matches the rising Chappell Roan energy  in the industry. Now, of course, just because someone does not mind rocking black-red lipstick and a wig, does not mean they are Chappell Roan, and the industry has a tendency to lump everyone in comparison. Yet, both share a  Ziggy Stardust vibe amid the growing sector of the industry that wants to use its penchant for high fantasy and art deco to, oddly enough, make it feel grounded again in its forgotten humanity.

People want to fall in love. People want to be strange and sweet in their utmost authenticity. They want to have a razor sharp aura that screams ¨Don’t F With Me´ while singing to finding your home, your soul tribe, your destiny! Geneva Jacuzzi does that, and what makes her so admirable is that she shows we have no excuse. For many, it takes a long time to make money off your music, and, sometimes, recognition can feel so distant, investment, can feel pointless. Yet, for artists like myself, Geneva Jacuzzi proves then you are not dreaming right because dreaming is being. She is a Queen … period. for more info click here.
