Concert Review: Warm Up At MoMA PS1 Is So New York

The Warm Up Series at MoMA PS1 is absolutely fantastic. I was shocked by how much fun it is, and how it is the most New York event you can experience. It is 100% based on community and diversity; where else could Pardison Fontaine and Kelly Lee Owens play together; like the people in attendance, a variety of styles and cultures under one roof. The audience was something to gaze beyond the stage.

It is rare, but there are concerts where the artist feels secondary to the crowd. The energy and vibrance of the people surpasses their performance by, oddly, elevating it. From Duendita to Like That Records, the night felt unstopped symphonic. It was a celebration of every kind of beat and verse that could make a song, while also celebrating every kind person that could make a city. Everyone was welcoming, and I do not have enough toes or fingers to count how many times a dance-off broke out between dancing strangers. It was hilarious, fun, and almost child-like.

MoMA PS1 Warm Up 2017 Season Highlights

For twenty-two dollars, NYC’ers were treated to the top and most promising acts in the music industry. Running from 12-9, it felt like a one day Gov Ball, which I loved. Honestly, words fail me in describing the dynamism and “feel good” of the audience, which amplified every performer. Even rain or tech difficulties could not keep the mood down, and you walked away truly feeling like you had experienced an event. With DJs/artists such as JOY and

Kedr Livanskiy playing the night felt like an ebb and flow between a day-clubbing event and one of the best Hip Hop shows you could see thanks to Freddie Gibbs & Madlib. If you are a community lover as much as a music lover, then Warm Up is for you. You meet and watch people as much as the show. Moreover,  you get to experience some of the most eccentric art thanks to its galleries being included in the ticket. All in all, it truly is a worthy, summer series. For More Information On Warm Up at MoMA PS1 Click Here.
