Concert Review: Get “Keshi Authentic” Today
I WAS SHOOK to see Keshi at Radio City because I felt like a soccer mom. I had seen him just a few years back at Rough Trade; a show that was packed with people that acted like he was their high-school best friend. That approach, literally, garnered him a spot on the LANY tour, and fans that were equally there to see him.
Honestly, Keshi makes me laugh as a performer because he is so casual. He is so strong yet unfazed, all at once; as if a feather hits harder than a fist. That paradox of striding through the stage as if he was texting all his buddies to party while appearing like the biggest star to land on earth was hypnotizing because it symbolized “presence.” Frankly, I would love to walk into a room with a wind machine, beat to the nines, and everyone looking at me as if I was a gliding Garnier Fructis commercial. Yet, I’ve never felt that secure. Something about being seen, even in a packed room, feels so powerful yet daunting in terms of how to achieve. Do I fake it till I make it? Or can you achieve such a lever of “Keshi Aunthenticity” that being you is effortless and followed.
Keshi was SEEN and he totally MATCHED LANY’s vibe of singing to those that are not. I, often, talk about the “friend” quality that makes a great artist, but Keshi adds more to my theory. I thought that the “friend power” of artists derived from their ability to feel candid and fun. Yet, it is not enough to appear vulnerable… you have to sing on it. Nowadays, “trauma-bonding” feels like friendship glue; if you tell somebody your losses, suddenly, you gained an IG follower. Maybe, it is because so many feel lost that artists who make track about it are treasured.
At Radio City, Keshi’s fans found him to be a gem, and are DETERMINED to assure he keeps on rising to bigger stages where HE HEADLINES! AND HE WILL!
