Concert Review: Haerts Capture The Hearts In Rough Trade NYC

There are those that believe desire is the death of happiness, which can be true. Everything in life is balance, and I have yet to meet anyone without wants, but there are those with obsessions or excessive, impassioned desires. For Haerts, at Rough Trade, life is something you desire, but the living are those that know how to handle that.

Perhaps, the key to dealing with desire is to not just to want for yourself, but to also want for others. Tracks like, “Signs,” “The Way,” and “ No Love For The Wicked,”  sang to sharing your vision for yourself to include others. Lead singer Nina Fab shows that the most exciting thing about falling in love is being able to both dream with and for a person. Thus, songs such as, “Your Love “ and “New Compassion“ exemplified that love is scary because it can ACTUALLY make you better and more generous. It makes you feel like another’s success is yours, which might be why she started a mass chant of “I want for me I must want for you.”HAERTS – The Way from NEW COMPASSION (Art Track)

Fabi has a voice that is surprisingly powerful and potent, especially when it belts. Her vocals are like the dulce of Haerts sweet, electric odes to love. Sonically, it as if Haerts have managed to turn lasers into candy, and she is the cherry flavor at the center to its coating of light. Their ability to make love feel like a radiant beam shooting from the center of the earth might be why people shook and clapped as if money was being dropped over their heads. Who needs material wealth, when spiritual riches are all over? For Haerts, feeling good and living well-off can be exclusive to each other. Thus, their show shoots like a star to turn your night into a magical celebration of true love. HAERTS – Matter from NEW COMPASSION (Live from Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn, NY)

I love when artists, somehow, make adrenaline feel calming as if you do not know whether you want to hike a mountain or meditate over some hot cocoa. These may seem like polar opposites in actions, but they are not so in impact. They both move us from our heads into our hearts, and that is exactly what Haerts do in performance.
