Concert Review: Heart Bones Go Full Eighties At LPR
The eighties were a strange time in defining romance because in being about excess, it was not about balance. Yet, that is why a lot of people are attracted to the 80’s as an era. It is did not ask anyone to better as much as BIG! Be everything! Be the top! Be THE MOST! This timeframe of history was when Hip Hop and Wall Street were born, of which both’s most famous catch-phrases are “I got my mind on my money and my money on mind” and “Greed Is Good.” With that in mind, Heart Bones played to the ridiculousness of being “extra” at LPR.
Warning: THE EIGHTIES REFERENCES WILL GET STRONGER!
Sabrina Ellis (Sweet Spirit) & Sean Tillmann (Har Mar Superstar) are FREAKING RIDICULOUSLY 80s. They are a raw blend of pure talent and silliness, of which they are self-aware of both. Like comedians they plant their bodies and vocals with purposed to crack a gleeful smile, a chuckle, and dance-clap from the audience. Yet, make no mistake, they are not “cheap.” They use their humor to amplify their talent and the intelligence behind making someone feel good. Hence, you will laugh as they sing-along and plot choreography like they are in Dirty Dancing, of which they covered “Hungry Eyes.” Still, they held an admiration for this era and how it happily deluded to believe aggrandizing a fantasy, to the point of arrogance, is healthy. (lol!)
Heart Bones – Little Dancer (Live at The Current)
Coming together to form the mightiest, big-haired, and hazy lighting duo since George Michael and Aretha Franklin or Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, Heart Bones became music’s More And Mindy. Ellis and Tillmann have a bright, funny energy that make you feel like you are watching two of the nerdiest kids in high-school make the coolest band. They feel like outcasts that found each other, and, in turn, made a popular inner circle. Such a dynamic explains why their fans feel like members of the most benevolent, joyous cult. I am not they are going to “Wild Wild Country,” but they take fun as a religious purpose, which is fascinating.
Heart Bones – Disappearer (Live at The Current)
From “This Time It’s Different” to “Little Dancer,” Heart Bones were incredibly fun and light-hearted. They were not self-conscious while being purposeful, which is such a rare and charming feat. They were two singers belting and waving their voice to the glory of love and the the extraordinary way a decade made us think of it. For More Information On Heart Bones Click Here.
