Concert Review: John Tsung Would Say Hello At Union Pool
I love John Tsung´s voice. Plain and simple! Something about Union Pool, its victorian, dive bar aesthetic brought out the loneliness and longing to his music. With his most recent single, ¨Pale Waves.¨ location and vibe totally matched to reveal the beauty and quiet smallness of just really wanting to be in love.
Tsung is like a warm cup of cocoa. From personality to effervescence, his whole energy emanates “guy who would say hi back.” I know that sounds super plain and irrelevant. Yet, something about that little note/detail matters to people and only builds tracks like, “Eastern Standard,” as the songs for good people that feel unseen. So often we discuss invisibility and loneliness as blanketed feelings, inevitable parts to the human experience, but I think good people feel it more. In essence, it hurts more that no one ever says ¨hello¨ when you are the guy that really would say ¨hi back.¨
As he serenaded, smiled, and chatted the audience, he made Union Pool feel like a space of light in a world really seeking them. Maybe, I was in my head, but I kept on thinking of all the shows I have been to and all the ones happening, as he sang, and wondered how many felt so intimate and interpersonal. I have been to many shows that felt really big and grand in display, but there will always be something so nice about a show that feels like a gathering. For More Info Click Here.
