Concert Review: Jojo Is A Fierce Survivor At Bowery Ballroom

When it comes Jojo’s career, she has been highly underestimated. By 14, she felt like the Bieber of her time: a young girl with an R&B voice that felt too raw to be a kid’s. Yet, fast-word almost 14 years later, and this girl is now a woman that understands having a vocal talent is nothing if you do not have a voice to protect it.

“If you guys came here to hear “Too Little To Late” or “Leave (Get Out)”, this night is for the fans,” Jojo smiled. Her Leaks, Covers, and Mixtapes tour truly feels more like a celebration for her fandom, and the sold-out Bowery crowd ate her up. This woman is a bonafide star, but not because she has the “hits”. She enraptures her crowd and draws them in by playing with their hair, pointing and winking, and, most importantly, relating to their struggle. If there is ANYTHING we can all relate to its that, at least, one time in our life somebody tried to fade us out.JoJo – FAB. (feat. Remy Ma)

There is always a person who tries to steal “our future”, sabotage our path, and diminish our talents and heart into a weapon against ourselves. Even Jojo admitted, “There were times I wanted to give up.” We have all said this, but not everybody can say that they did not, actually, give up. Hence, the secret to Jojo’s appeal and capacity to sell out a concert anywhere and anytime is because her fans know she is a survivor. Going to her show is not simply about seeing the artist, but also witnessing the person and stories of someone that got played and, somehow, gained the strength to change the game.

From Aailyah and Drake covers to unreleased tracks, Jojo was unstoppable.Yet, what attracted her fans was her vulnerability and the feeling she understands how it is to not “disappear” or become unseen thanks to others efforts. Thus, as she swagged through her set like the youngest OG this music industry has, I realized that Jojo has achieved a hidden key to success: solidity. She has a solid base of fans that are unmovable from their adoration of her because they like her as a person. And what is there not to like? She can control her vocal riffs like whips hitting noted cans, and then discuss how we need to respect strippers and stripping as an art form. #YASKWEEN! For More Information On Jojo Click Here.
