Concert Review: Kero Kero Bonito Are Cartoon Fantasies
If Cartoon Network could come up with a band, I think it would be Kero Kero Bonito. If you find that to be insulting, that I believe this band is the summation of one of the most lucrative, long-lasting tv channels, I ask you to reassess yourself. This band, even in title, sound like color and fun, which is what they brought to Brooklyn Steel.
Kero Kero Bonito are a prime example that not being for everyone makes you for someone. They are unabashedly childlike in their sound. All they had to do was announce their next collab was with Sailor Moon, and the entire BK Steel would have exploded into confetti and rhinestones. People even came in with a comic-book aesthetic, of colorful hair, pigtails, and wearing shirts of characters that may be drawn by a pencil but still feel real. Fantasies may not exist beyond our minds but they do find anchors within our soul, and that is REAL!
Kero Kero Bonito – When the Fires Come
Listen, I watch cartoons, have a stock of Manga, romance novels, and I am NOT ashamed. Hence, the attraction everyone has to Sarah Bonito. As a performer, she represents something we all wish we could do as people; become someone else. Her real name is Sarah Perry, but, on stage, she has a sweet, child-like voice that feels so soft and welcome, a fallen petal would return to its rose. She just appears like a drawn version of fun, innocence, and the benevolent ideas we have of growing up, a la cartoons. This dynamic made the show feel like a breeze; a welcome, adult arcade of sounds and euphoria.
Kero Kero Bonito – Flamingo (English Version)
For a night, Brooklyn Steel was like Barcade; a popular bar filled with every Nintendo, 80s/90s game you could imagine. All it needed was laser cats, and the night would have truly felt as virtual as it was virtuous. For the KKB fans, it is alright to feel “un-apart” of this world if the one you have created for yourself is kind and shiny or rather “bonito.” For More Information on Kero Kero Bonito Click Here.
