Concert Review: Kevin George’s Darling Is A Demon
Kevin George busted into Chelsea Music Hall’s like a man with purpose: a good time. He hovered over the floor as if his verses were picked from the ground, and approached the audience like it was filled with everyone he partied with in high-school. The result was a show that confirmed Kevin George will be played at every night-club run and pre-gaming dorm across the lands.
From the minute he entered, the crowd inched forwards as if his hands were Messianic with healing. He hi-fived, smiled, and danced with them as if “We Are The Champions” was playing in his head, while he sang tracks from his debut, “My Darlings A Demon.” He was happily coy to introduce so many new tracks to the crowd that felt incredibly loyal to this “new artist.” The night was a union between Island Records and MTV Push; trying to amplify the “up and comers” of the acclaimed label. Each act was exceptionally cool; bringing a flare of rhythm and joy that felt unmatched, especially considering that Kevin George was singing to the downside of love and the excessive measures you take to feel up.
Kevin George – Don’t Sleep Without Me
When someone breaks your heart, you will be surprised what you do to feel “mended” for a second. Vocally, Kevin George feels like that attempted mend; approaching pain with smile and a voice that balms over love’s disappointment. With a stunning MLK shirt and blue dreads, he felt vivid, and could not stop rapping and smiling, all at once. No matter what was his darkest theme or heaviest bassline, he always felt light; zooming from one end to another on one breathe. In a way, he was effortlessly fun reveling in the instagram pics and admiring eyes that wanted to capture him as if a star could fit into an iPhone filter. I know people can get “whishy washy” about whether someone should enjoy fame and attention but why not. In some ways, that is what Kevin George embraces: the excess of being young Kevin George – Sweet Darling
When you are in your twenties, you GET LIT! You fall in and out of love like one does sleep. You completely obliterate your health with a bag a day of flaming hot Cheetos and treating Tequila Shot Tuesdays as if they were a religious obligation. Even worse, you make 8-hour sleeps as rare a rainbow. To someone older, that sounds like a nightmare and someone should sage. Yet, to Kevin George and fans, that is the dream, and explains why you want to fade every time your heart breaks or fly every time love enters it; when you are young the only thing that can make you feel not invincible is a break-up.
