Concert Review: Kyle Craft Is A Human Acid Trip At Baby’s All Right
SOOOO MANY THOUGHTS! Seeing Kyle Craft is like watching Buddy Holly’s ghost on acid. Or maybe, it is like watching Jack White and Iggy Pop form a serum that gives you the perfect, rock dream? Either scenario shows you Kyle Craft is as fantastic as he fantastical.
Craft has a voice that belts as if his chords were actually invisible hands meant to steal ears. From “The Rager” to “Pentecost”, Craft’s voice felt rasped like a knife delicately slicing off all the the times you had to “act cool” when you were anything BUT! His capacity to swing his voice up and down like a yo-yo is particularly helpful when he sings songs like, “Fake Magic Angel” and “Heartbreak Junky”, that are all about toxic love. For me, a bad relationship feels exactly like a yo-yo; it is all childish fun until you accidentally smack yourself in the face and get tangled in your lover’s string…. Yeah! Kyle Craft’s ability to be playful amongst chaos is why he bops like a 1950’s hop about to be torn by a bull-dozer; he is both bright and tearing, all at once.
Kyle Craft – The Rager [OFFICIAL VIDEO]
As I looked at the Baby’s All Right crowd, their faces gazed up as if they were watching a human eclipse. Baby’s twinkling wall of lights danced perfectly to Craft’s blends of punk, rock, and absolute sugar. No matter how hard he goes in voice, lyrics, and arrangements, he, somehow, comes off light enough to make you tap your anger and then bounce back into your heart. You dance, you mosh, and, in the end, you have a completely cathartic experience. Through it all, Craft becomes the vocality of benevolent pain; screeching his notes and swaying his head like a man driving exhilaratingly fast but not quite avoiding life’s dead-ends.
