Concert Review: Lindsey Stirling Plays The Violin Like Lisa Simpson

If there is one regret I have in my life, it is not learning to play the violin. Alright, I have a few other regrets, but, for this article, it is SOLELY not learning to play the violin. Something about that instrument makes me feel beauty like, it is this forest of emotional gardenias blossoming in my soul. For some, the violin is, literally, a symbol of sad music, but, for Lindsey Stirling at Gramercy Theatre, the violin was like Cloud Atlas: many lives lived within those strings, which means many songs are meant to be played by them.

Celebrating the release of Artemis, Lindsey Sterling played the violin like Lisa Simpson does the saxophone. I swear if somebody came up to me and said, “You know I saw Lindsey smiling, with her eyes closed, playing the violin as she walked the city,” I would say, “Yup, that is Lindsey Simpson!” She is so sweet and humble while being electrifyingly talented. I love when musicians treat their instrument like a door to worlds; hence, my Cloud Atlas reference. For Lindsey, you journey through time and space through a violin, which made her performance feel like a creative’s dream.

Artemis – Lindsey Stirling

Maybe, it is because, again, MY ONLY REGRET IN LIFE is not learning to play the violin, but I was as impressed with Lindsey’s talent as her creativity. She is so playful; able to carry her instrument as if it is this lion she has learned to tame. That violin does everything she says, which you may think, OBVIOUSLY!, but that is not easy. New York/ the world is filled with musicians that, at best, use their instrument to fulfill their needs for a song. Yet, Lindsey uses the violin as if it is a need for the soul and it must expand and explore itself. In this sense, she amplified why pretending to “play the violin” is the international symbol for self-pity or a dark turn in a conversation. The violin, as a sound, makes you go inward, like a bad fight or day can, as well. Yet, Lindsey shows looking inward to your heart and should is not a sad thing to do. Instead, it is an adventure you must do. For More Information On Lindsey Stirling Click Here.
