Concert Review: Lukas Graham Soulfully Shakes Pepsi Kola House
Lukas Graham ROCKED Pepsi Kola House. Let’s just say that had the venue been made of literal Pepsi cans, the place would have been SHOOK. With a soulful voice that can riff through notes like wind rakes through leaves, I was in awe of lead singer Lukas Forchhammer.
Lukas Graham – Drunk In The Morning [Official Music Video ]
I do not know anyone who can do a octave jumping riff on the word “drunk” quite like Lukas. The lead vocalist has a voice that is exceptional on record, but phenomenal in concert. I studied opera, and I can tell you, from my batch of live shows, singing an hour or two for a few straight nights and even months is not easy. Even singing for a day can feel like a drain, which is why so many artists lip-sync or do not do the same, harder runs and notes from their record during their live show. Yet, Lukas Forchhammer was perfect in tone, pitch, and all-out style. Again, anyone who could make the word “drunk”, something that leads to “fun” headaches and “hopeful” memory loss, into a beautiful sounding act has impressed me. As he sang “Drunk In The Morning”, “Strip No More” and “Happy Home”, I wanted to applaud him for his emotional and vocal precision because when you hear a treasure of soul, you cannot help but place it in your chest. As the band of exceptional of brass, percussion, and string musicians backed Lukas with fervent talent and energy, the crowd grew blissfully wild. We were at a private show in an intimate lounge with a band that has traveled the world to fill arenas that seem bigger than planets. Yet, for me, the night was defined by the love and stories passed down upon Lukas from his father Eugene.
Lukas Graham – You’re Not There [OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO]
The way Lukas speaks and reveres his father made me feel like I missed out on meeting a great man. After all, a good father raises a good son, and with the amount of smiles and warmth Lukas gave to the crowd, it was hard not feel to feel proud of Eugene for doing so well as a person and parent. Lukas’ father, unfortunately, passed away from a heart attack, which has left the young singer eager to place into song and audience hearts’ the important memory of this kind human being. Tracks like “Criminal Mind” and “You’re Not There” were preceded and followed by tales of Lukas’ father; a man that taught him compassion and fearlessness, which could be seen in songs like, “Take The World By Storm”, that laser in on the bravery and boisterousness of an open, loving heart. Raised in Christiania (please look up this fascinating place), Lukas knows the tussles between turmoil and peace, which again can be heard in his lyrical and spiritual riffs. Yet, it was the love of his parents that got him through, and gave the world/ that Kola House crowd a seriously good concert.
