Concert Review: Luna Li Is My Moon Star

I am so cheap when it comes to my love for a harp, and I mean that most gracefully. I am, literally, dying over the Bridgeton soundtrack because it turns pop into violin masterpieces, and Luna Li does THE SAME. Her “magic trick” is turning catching tunes into tiny opuses in the same way a magician pulls a rabbit out of his hat. Sure, it may seem banal, but, honestly, can you pull anything out of your cap. Thus, it may have just been a “harp” but I ate it UP at Baby’s All Right.

There is an inherent simplicity to Luna Li, even in name. Something about her energy just flows as if, in a world where everybody is running on legs, she is the only one on a cloud. I loved her peaceful, smiling demeanor because in a world where artists seek so avidly their music’s image, Luna Li is the image of her music. If her songs such as. “Space,” had a human form, it would be her, and seeing someone so perfectly embody their sound was…cool.

There is a delicacy to Luna Li as if from instruments to vocals she plucks every single note like one would the petals of a daisy. Yet, instead of asking if “he loves me or loves me not” she is asking the universe, “will it or won’t it!” In essence, will the “powers that be” align in her favor or not. This made her show feel cosmically easy-going as if, after, instead of calling an uber  we would ring in our spaceships for a pick-up. I loved feeling that way, especially because that spacey vibe was so casual, it reminded me we are truly all star-dust.
