Concert Review: Off Bloom Bring Are Merchants Of Cool At Public Arts
Public Arts Space is new venue that has the potential to dominate in terms of slick spaces offering rising, unique talent, i.e Off Bloom. Serving electric dreams, more than songs, they turned the red-velveted back-drop of their stage into an invitation. Pull the giant, golden chords hanging, and you would enter a scintillating world of pop fantasies, love potions, and the merchant of cool that is Mette Mortensen.
Off Bloom – Falcon Eye (Official Video)
I want to be Mette Mortensen. I want walk on stage with high heels and top fashion, and then sing the coolest songs ever in rejection to everyone that has rejected me. I, previously, delved into Off Bloom’s penchant of making denial sound fun. Suddenly, heartbreak was actually an opportunity for a heart mend. Their music, even newer songs like Falcon’s Eye, did not stray from the notion that you can still look and feel good even in your emotional worst, and Mette Mortensen is the embodiment of that. She performs her songs as if she is telling you to “buzz off” or publicly declaring she is fabulous even in sadness. Her aura of composed dramatics makes her riveting to watch as she waltzes around the stage tossing her hands and notes into the lyrical air. “Marie”, “Thorns”, and “Orchid” were all tracks set up to show that brokenness is a phase, but dignity is a standard. While Alex and Mads bop in the background pulsing beats as if they were invisible monsters rising from their instruments, Mette performs to the audience as if they are her subjects. Her star quality becomes regality, and she proved why Off Bloom have been must watch artists; you have to SEE THEM! From Denmark to the US, Off Bloom are proving that pop music never dies because the idea of being and staying sweetly cool will never die, as well: from music styles to personal ones.
