Concert Review: Pip Blom Bloom On At Rough Trade
I was SHOOKETH by the amount of badassery and energy emanating from Pip Blom as they took over Rough Trade. They are one of those bands, similar to Parcels, where their album does not encompass their show. Sure, their music can feel like a soft, gentle indie-rock ride down the Venice of youthful self-doubt, but, come to their show, and there is no doubt things are about to POP OFF.
Each member head-bangs into the air like they are trying to break the invisible glass in front of them so as to release the captives. Hence, songs that speak about feeling stuck or captured by your life’s situations, suddenly, in show, become about getting freedom. In essence, they are like that “meme dress” where some people saw the dress as gold and others saw it as blue, except, what you see, depends on whether you see them live or on record.
Pip Blom – Daddy Issues (Official Video)
I love an artist that is multi-facted. Similar to Pronoun, lead singer, Pip Blom, is 100% a dynamic. She oozes confidence like a casual rebel; a young woman writing poems in her notebook and lighting trash-cans on her daily run. She splashes together a dynamic that is 100% Millennial. We are a generation that love our social media but call out narcissism. We believe in equality and love but struggle and defining “cancel culture.” We are a beautiful paradox trying to heal historical hypocrisies, of which tracks like, “The Shed,” “Ruby,” and “Tired” totally embodied how we love to party but want to calm down.

Are we walking conundrums without solution? Who knows? Yet, maybe we don’t need an answer as much as a song. Pip Blom’s delivery as a singer/ performer shows that, perhaps, it is the journey a question takes you on rather than a definitive answer. HOW ZEN! For More Information On Pip Blog Click Here.
