Concert Review: Polo & Pan Are Parisian Chic In NYC

For some reason, I always get excited when an international artist makes their concert debut in the US. It makes me want to take them to the side and ask, “What are we like?” I gawk at them as if they might say something more about me than themselves. Hailing from France, Polo & Pan showed the European electronica scene is WAY smoother and more calculated than ours.

While I can blast my brains with Skrillex or drop it like a hot baseline with Diplo, Polo & Pan have a fun, brighter, and even curious sound. They dig their synths like diamonds on grassed baselines; letting them shine amongst the lush nature of sound you scope with mindful hands. Like their newest singles “”Arc en ciel” and “Canopée”, their music felt like a detective playfully investigating the crimes of the rich by observing through their nightlife patterns. Yes, I know that is a specific image, but there is a mutual balance of luxury and fantasy with distance and deviousness. With Polo & Pan, for a night, you simply are watching and taking in what is to dance like you are the emblem of Parisian chic, but, like in any club scene, there is always a sense of cool danger and sophisticated seeding to their ambiance.

Sleek and vibrant are certainly terms to describe a Polo & Pan night. While the two guys bounce to their sounds and create their rhythms like masterchefs, the crowd simply danced the night away as if Polo & Pan are the play button and we are the film. In truth, their show involved simple, vivid lighting, but it showed that, unlike other DJ shows, they do not need much light display or scenic backdrops to take you into your mind and give you a sonic vision. Of course, some people will ask, “What is the point of DJ’s? Why bother seeing them live?” Yet, the best DJ is, technically, not seen. When you go to Polo & Pan show, you go to experience and embody a what it would to be young, wild, rich and in Cannes. For More Information On Polo & Pan Click Here.
