Concert Review: Quinn Christopherson Is A Simple Soul At Baby’s All Right

Quinn Christopherson is totally cool and nerdy, and that is why we love his soulfulness. I am a PROUD NERD, and I can be a raw mix of shy and wittily fun: two qualities Quinn shared with the Baby’s All Right audience. He was smart, sweet, bold, and coy, all at once, which was perfect because his songs sing to feeling like a giant mix of batters being shook across life’s plastic bag. (Yes, I know that analogy is something else. (lol!)

Pendulums swing back and forth, of which “being different” can get you both alienated and celebrated, all at once. Yet, the nuance of that truth is that it makes your sense of “self” feel like a house of mirrors. You have a million roles to play and about 3 million outside perceptions over how you are playing them. The purpose of “Soul” or “folk music” is to analyze the clash between who you think you are, who you really are, and how all your relationships fall in-between those thoughts. Thus, Quinn’s music was like a guitar-led, character-driven literary work; to pick a song was to pick a life/ chapter filled with heartbreaks and wonders.

Erase Me (Live)

Part of why Quinn’s personality stands out is that he is a simple guy creating simple music that feels incredibly magical. The audience was mesmerized by Quinn, and the night was being filmed by NPR Tiny Desk, of which Quinn had won their competition. Thus, the room was not just filled with music-lovers as much as story-tellers. NPR Tiny Desk nose-dives into music; trying to find artists that remind audiences of music’s universal power. It is a connector, reflector, and elevator of the human spirit, and Quinn reminds audience’s that such a vast role is, actually, simple.

Vocally, Quinn’s voice feels paced and rich; as if he slowly dropping golden coins rather than vocal notes. He breaks down verses, again, like a literary work; making sure you remember the emotional weight of lyrics like one does the color of the sky or the smell of a summer wind. Combine that vocal/ lyrical chemistry with guitar arrangements that drip like sweet tea hitting a glass of ice, and it is hard not to feel coolly refreshed by his show. He is so unbelievably personable and human while revealing his genius and creativity, which makes him one to watch For More Information on Quinn Christopherson Click Here.
