Concert Review: Remezcla & Popgun Unite For A Powerful Concert Series
If Remezcla and Pop Gun are planning to marry to create the Holy Grail of concert series…… well…… I’M IN! The two provided a night that incredibly exciting by giving New Yorkers, particularly Latinx, a taste of the new artists reinventing our traditions, fusing sounds, speaking to the powers that corrupt and the loves that break us.
Jackie Mendoza, Angelica Garcia, and Loyal Lobos gave a fantastic show that scoped through many sounds an artist can play with to create a distinct sense of self. Their rhythms wrapped and warped in ways that would make Frank Ocean tear. Moreover, I was able to see an artists I had never seen or heard before: Angelica Garcia. The whole purpose of the Popgun series is to introduce people to the future/ underground of music; the artists who are going whose distinction redefines how you consume music, which Garcia does. Her performance was nothing short of electric and stunningly strange; a perfect counter for the cool, dreamy stylings of Loyal Lobos.
Angelica Garcia – Jícama
When it come to Loyal Lobos you cannot be her ability to emanate the coolness of peace. She looks and sings so unfazed that you wish she could just pop into your life during any emotional crisis. In a way, she can if you just press play. Yet, her show capped off a night of three, Latina women selected by Remezcla to show we are fierce, creative, and magnetizing. Yeah…. I knew it.
