Concert Review: Rhys Lewis Is Better Than Ever In Brooklyn
Ever since I reviewed A Star Is Born, I am obsessed with the idea that new artists are stars and their concerts/ careers are like their inner star’s birth. It’s a beautiful analogy that played to how the audience responded to Rhys Lewis. For them, his voice was like someone waking you up to go to a dream: not from it.
“He’s good!” said one friend to another; looking at Rhys as if her Spotify list grew to include his name. Yet, Rhys was as impressed with the crowd as he was with them. Big crowds, to openers, are like water; clear energy symbolizing what they most need and want as an artist. Still, I do not say this facetiously. When you know you got “it,” you want others to know, as well. Tracks like, “Better Than Today” and “No Right To Love,” might as well have come with flight confirmation numbers because Rhys Lewis career is going to FLY. (Cue eye-rolls at my cheesy puns) Yet, he will soar for 2 important reasons: his voice and Love, itself.
Rhys Lewis – Better Than TodayRhys Lewis has a voice that caramels and cooks his verses; as if he is sweetening their darkness, which is befitting for how he sings to love. He treats it like an energy that can be so beautiful, strong, and eternal but consistently struggles to reach that point. It is this force that opens you to how much you are capable of while, simultaneously, stopping you from reaching it. Thus, Lewis, lyrically, respects love for its potential and promise, but wonders, like most of us, how long can the hope and knowledge love’s best be enough for its arrival? The result was a quick, pensive set that marked Rhys Lewis as one to watch.
Rhys Lewis – Living In The CityIt never fails… a lonely voice with a guitar. It seems like utmost symbol of whom everyone feels they are, and Rhys Lewis plays into that. He is present, lovelorn, and carries guitar melodies that makes loneliness feels wholesome and common. Moreover, his verse dig into the dirt of relationships to find it seeds. Trust me, he will be headlining all over Brooklyn/the world in just a bit. For More Information On Rhys Lewis Click Here.
