Concert Review: Riceboy Sleeps In Ambiance At King’s Theatre

For a night, King’s Theatre might as well have been located in the Aurora Borealis within Iceland. Jonsi And Alex Somers’ ambient sound reverberated through the regal theatre to build an atmosphere that could compete with Fantasia. All we needed was Mickey Mouse with a wizard hat and a wand flick to see a burst of worlds and creatures vape through the theatre to remind us that music is dreaming.

As Jónsi’s ethereal voice seemingly Cirque Du Soleil’d through the room, imagination were sparked. Minds opened like stars cracking open to let out their light. They made people feel like they were sleeping while awake; setting a sonic peace that, even at its most exuberant, felt lulling. It was as if Heaven was having a parade of strings and the experience was unique and unbelievable. For  the night, the present was worth staying in, and past and future quieted to the Wordless Orchestra and Choir .

Jónsi & Alex Somers – Making of… Riceboy Sleeps Tour.

The Wordless Orchestra And Choir were instantly hushing; playing as if pictures are produced from violins more than sounds. The way they orchestrated the night felt, for lack of a better term, organic. It was as if we all had been eating at fast food restaurants. when it comes to music, and our best friend said, “Hey, want to go eat at a farm!” The music was pure, fresh produce, which is exactly what the duo, Jónsi from Sigur Rós and his partner, renowned film composer Alex Somers, wanted to achieve in the night’s reimagining of the album Riceboy Sleeps. As Jonsi and Somer had explained, it was about making music feel musical.

A song is a dream and a dream is show, and that is what I realized through the alliance of Jonsi And Alex Somers. You listen to a song and, automatically, your mind runs a series of images, and a show is that series come to life. A concert has the responsibility, of sorts, to keep the dream/show going, and that they did. For More Information On Jonsi And Alex Somers Click Here.
