Concert Review: Romeo Santos Is The King At Barclays
Currently on his Golden Tour, the self-proclaimed King of Bachata, is not wrong about his royal title. He has been for Bachata what Michael Jackson was for Pop and Elvis Presley to rock n’ roll. His career accomplishment and mass appeal were prevalent throughout his Sold-Out Barclays show, and created a standard for the heights you can achieve when you reign over a genre like an empire.
Romeo Santos walks unto the stage with such a wry arrogance, you have to smile. It is so clear that he knows what he has created for himself, which make him turn the stage into his arcade. Cheer and song competitions, stealing kisses from fans, and an open forum discussion with the entire stadium over who ruled the night, women or men, drew the audience closer to him like a king coming to meet his people. Yet, Romeo handles the love with a wry humor that left a man named Cruz getting good and bad news. Romeo said, “Cruz, I’m going to give you the good news first. I like you, and I know after tonight your getting some love from your wife for the tickets. The bad news news is she is going to be thinking about me during it.” The entire audience erupted in our New Yorker “ohhh’s”, and an acknowledgement that Romeo was born here and raised in our humor.

The entire night was so electric with camaraderie, I thought I had entered a Latinx Convention. We were out and ready to dance, but absolutely floored by how many hits Romeo Santos has given to the world. The audience was filled with couples and people of all ages that have used Santos near two decade career to define their notions of romance. All he had to do was play the first chords of “Mi Corazóncito” or “Ella Y Yo,” and the audience hailed applause and bachata moves because we knew what was coming: music and a ton of memories that Romeo Santos has soundtracked for us. He has given us so much music, he could tour forever without making another song. FACTS!
Romeo Santos – Eres Mía
From singing with our girls on the way to the club to making out with our boys on the way back. Romeo Santos has, literally, sung to love. Vocally, live, he is exactly like the record, which made me grateful. He is an artist that is so vocally distinct and golden, on recording, that I did not want him to be any different, especially, again, because of all his hits! He has had so many “clásicos” on the radio that he kept on having to do melodies uniting them all: “I’m Sorry”, “Obsesión”, “La Boda” “Papi Dijo,” etc. I almost had to tell, “Stop! Mi corazón can’t take it!” No wonder the show was nearly three hours, it could take you 3 months to listen to all his songs. Yet, it made his show a must-see to recall, relive, and revel on how much music marks our lives. For More Information On Romeo Santos Click Here.
