Concert Review: Roses And Revolutions Spark At Baby’s All Right
Led by Alyssa Coco, Roses And Revolutions reminded me why I love new artists; they are as excited as they are exciting. Between her belts, Coco bounced around that stage as if music was a moving target; meant to be aimed but never struck. Yet, this star struck a crowd with a sense of genuine joy.
Often, people question the authenticity of happiness, especially when the lines between pessimism and realism are blurred. Yet, Coco felt so happy. Her first time at Baby’s All Right, she introduced Roses And Revolutions newest songs and their dynamism to an audience, she laughed was not there to see her, but sure stayed as if they were. With a personality that charms with accessibility, Roses And Revolutions felt perfect to scale the lines of country-pop, even giving one of the best covers of The Weeknd’s “The Hills”.
Too folk to be pop, too country to be R&B, but too smooth to not fall into all categories, Roses And Revolution’s personality may have won the crowd, but their sound won the moment. They are 100% in the “now”, and have bend genres together to form songs meant to go mainstream but feel oddly indie. “Get That Feeling” and “Big Bad Wolf” play with people’s desires to dance with doom. After All, from The Weeknd to Cardi B or Taylor Swift, some of our biggest artists right now are succeeding because they are dropping baselines on heartbreak. They dedicate their tracks to love’s failures and the ones that want them to fail, which makes their listeners want them to win more. Yet, Alyssa Coco’s voice has a powerful belt that is winning, and makes you wonder how she could constantly sway across the stage, like every young woman does when dancing in her bedroom, and then jump an octave.
Roses And Revolutions may have been the opener, but they proved a setup does not affect a set. Sure, they were not the headliner, but those waiting for the amazing Run River North, were happily surprised to know coming early to a show is a chance to see your future, favorite headliners.
