Concert Review: Roses & Revolutions Bring The Epic To Pop
Roses & Revolutions has a MAJOR benefit to their sound; they make pop feel epic. They arrange songs to have this “end of the world” feel with sprinkles and twinkles of hopeful lyrics and power vocals. It is as if they believe the apocalypse will actually be a cupcake war where the ultimate winner gains an eternal supply of kitchen-ware and cake ingredients. You may laugh, but, at Mercury Lounge, it was nice to feel like hope can be as big as sadness, and thus a formidable foe to its rise.
Roses and Revolutions – “Dancing In A Daydream” (Live)
Sure, you may see my language as facetious, but, perhaps, you don’t see or hear descriptions of joy or hope so much. After all, when it comes to happiness on the internet, most people rely on cat videos and Instagram stories of babies trying ice cream for the first time. Happiness feels clipped and dispersed, but Roses & Revolutions live up to their name by making songs such as, “Sugar, We’re Going Down” and “I Don’t Have Feelings Anymore” feel like sung affirmations for people ready to, actually, pick themselves up by the emotional boot-straps. Personally, I think the hardest choice anyone can make is the choice to do better, and Alyssa Coco has pristine voice that feels that.
Roses & Revolutions – “i don’t have feelings anymore”
With a fringe, white coat swinging around she belted through her notes, while Matt Merritt soothed through his guitar, the duo felt like a blend of calm, confidence, and, in some ways, calamity. If you sing to hope, you, naturally, note situations that are hopeless. They are bound counters. Thus, their ease on the stage and quick smiles brought the crowd in and helped be the roses to revolutions. For More Information On Roses & Revolutions Click Here.
