Concert Review: Nasty Cherry Are Punk-Pop Fabulosity

I love Nasty Cherry. I am all for their fabulous edginess, and their ability to make pink and glitter feel as rough and cutting as a knife. In essence, they take femininity and make it feel dangerous and like a formidable defense; as if a short skirt and a middle finger are two deadly weapons. I LOVE IT! Hence, their Bowery show was SOLD OUT and for good reason.

I can’t tell you how many men were there with glitter on their face and repeating, “I Love Them!” Meanwhile, ladies were enamored by their rocker style and had spikes and leather jackets as if the two items were the uniforms for women WHO ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE! In a way, by giving femininity a sense of valiance and bold value, Nasty Cherry have a genderless appeal; proving that softness and toughness are not mutually exclusive when you are trying to live your life according to openness. Thus, the show went by like a breeze because they, like their crowd, were open to an experience of surreal sweetness.

Whether Gabby was crowd surfing or Chloe was throwing up her hands Georgia or Debbie were playing their instruments as if life begins after every note is born, their dynamism was electric. Moreover, their songs made them feel like the coolest, live-actions version of Josie And The Pussycats, which I had mentioned in my prior review of them. They feel both cartoonishly 80’s and progressively pop; a ripe mix of retro-futurism that makes them so much more powerful as a live band. They wanted to incite a benevolent riot; igniting their audience to be wild and wonderful and, frankly, we were! While they may have acknowledged their Netflix boost, the crowd felt thankful to the streaming giant for introducing them to their new faves. For More Information On Nasty Cherry Click Here.
