Concert Review: Samm Henshaw Will Make You Grow
If there is anything Samm Henshaw has always done, it is deliver. The first time I saw him perform was at an industry “shin-dig,” which is always strange since I, sincerely, believe people are more there for the free food than the free music. I mention that because those parties have “air” to them, and, as an artist, there is a pressure to impress people that make their living off of making you impressive to the masses. Yet, for Samm, impressiveness lies in his consistency. At SOB’s he proved he was his constant by delivering music from his soul.
Samm Henshaw FEELS his music …. No….. he dreams it. Every song Samm delivered, at his sold-out show, was visual to him and thus us. It was as if he saw feeling like one would Pixar’s Inside Out. Happiness was a green fairy and depression a blue goober. Yet, that ability to see feelings is what made his overall aesthetic feel transformative; as if the key to being a “chameleon” artist is just to let yourself grow as a person.
As I mentioned, it is not easy to impress as an artist, and transforming/ growing can feel even rougher. Yet, what was so cool about Samm’s interactions with the crowd and vice versa is that he proved what makes an artist “eternal” on someone’s playlist stems from how their music emotionally grows. Whether or not Samm becomes a MASSIVE STAR, he always be a constant one because he is the artist that goes beyond time. He is the artist that you go back to time and time again because they have embodied sentiment, and as that crowd filled their eyes with his star and their ears with his song, I felt full circle with Samm; understanding that a diamond’s value is not in how big it is shaped but how bright it is shined. He shines… PHEW! HE SHINES! For More Information On Samm Henshaw Click Here
