Summerstage P/Review: Summerstage Lasts Till The Fall

While their Phony Ppl/ Crumb show got cut short, due to weather, it was a beautiful night. Trudging through audio issues and on again/ off again nature of the rain, it was as if God had put the power of Summerstage on a literal switch. Yet, I firmly believe that things going wrong amplify what is right about you. There was no greater sense of community felt then when Phony Ppl dropped into the crowd to perform in the audience after a few sound issues. It was a moment of both artistic tenacity and Summerstage’s eased feel.

Summerstage is a setting where anything goes, but attracts such good people, wanting to have a good time, that you can have moments like the latter. It redefines “safety” at a concert by showing there is a trust between the audience and artist, and free shows, oddly, make that trust greater. When you go to a free show, especially in a locale as beautiful as East River Park, its because you needed a space that was easy access to a “breather.” Summerstage shows allow that by giving artists like Phony PPL a chance to spread their feel-good vibrations. While Crumb ended up performing, for free, at Rough Trade, the night was set as good.

While many summer concert series are ending, Summerstage continues into the Fall. No, it will not be called Fallstage, BUT it will include performances by Mitski, Marina, AND THE B-52’S! So  grab your Rock Lobster, and head out to Central Park. Trust me, this series goes beyond family fun. It is the best of New York. Click Here to see Free Shows and Paid Ones.
