Concert Review: Suzanne Santo Is A Country Rock Star At Rough Trade

Suzanne Santo is A MOTHERLOVIN ROCKSTAR. She makes you want to grab a whiskey and call up Thelma & Lousie for a nice ride across the canyon. #YAS! I am going to say it, “As a woman, it feels so good to see badass woman, especially in country!”

I spoke about it with Cam; the country music scene is not friendly or even considerate of female talent. You drive on down to Nashville, blast the radio, and all you will hear is men. No offense, but women can only handle so many songs about a guy trying to seduce us, deal with how we betrayed him, or went out with his boys to betray us. Thus, when I saw Suzanne Santo at Rough Trade, a gal that COULD ROCK the country music scene, I wanted to call up the Tennessee gods, and say, “Hey, you need to get on this femme power!”

Sure, Suzanne can laugh about eating too much pasta, relive her HoneyHoney days with guest Benjamin Jaffe, and giggle over some mic and guitar-fixing troubles. Yet, she can also give you the sickest Led Zeppelin cover you will ever hear, Whole Lotta Love, and sing you an opus of a female, folk legend readying to summon hell to those that try to dim her fire. Again, I admit, it was refreshing to hear a woman sing about more than falling in and out love with a guy. Sometimes, you forget that there is more to your story than what is presented, and from “Ghost In My Bed” to “The Wrong Man” , Suzanne Santo proved that ladies can create and tell the best of tales.

As she whipped out her violin or wailed on the mic as if she was confessing her sins to God himself, the crowd was enthralled by Suzanne Santo. She was this unstoppable force that could talk to us like our best friend, and then sing to us like either our inner demon or saving angel. For More Information On Suzanne Santo Click Here.
