Concert Review: Suzy Jones Baptizes At Mercury Lounge
Okay, prepare for another one of my random comparisons/ concert descriptions; Suzy Jones felt baptismal at Mercury Lounge. She used her voice as if to humbly bless people into elevation. For Ms. Jones, music is an opportunity to ascend, and, in that, her music felt mystical and sacred, of which who does not want that.
Sometimes, I think the reason people people fear getting spiritual or feeling mystical is because it is like tapping into your actual self. Do you really want to know your power? Sure, anyone would say, but the truth is we fear how great we can be because then that is a call to action and work that we might not be ready to adhere. This truth taps into every aspect of our life, and Suzy Jones’ sang to those that want to rise but just wish being genuinely powerful did not require all that empowerment stuff like, loving yourself and getting rid of the people that only say they love you. In essence, of you if want to be good to you then you have to start seeing how good the people, situations, and choices you make are because you can like what is wrong but you can only love what is right. #wisdom
Suzy Jones – Now! [Official Music Video]
Yes, I felt enlightened as Suzy Jones delivered a performance like she was about to hold a chat and, perhaps, a confrontation with Jesu Cristo. She is passionate; holding her microphone and vocal notes as if both were holy, and the longer they were held, the more Jesus heard. From “6AM” to “Tonight,” Jones felt like she was putting herself on deck to be the next country-soul superstar; matching country’ earthy roots with soul’s higher ones. Both genres understand that human beings can be walking pyres; trying to light and feel fired by life because we rather sparks in a flame then drops in the ocean.WOOSH! THAT IMAGERY! Yet, Suzy Jones deserves all the pictures and feelings because that is what she gives as a performer. Suzy Jones – Tonight [Official Music Video]
Love, scorn, confusion, hope, etc, Suzy Jones might as well have audition for a Greek Tragedy play. She was so emotive, which is I felt like her performance was baptismal. She sees the stage as an opportunity for rebirth; approaching concert like the chance at new life, but, in order to get that, her songs have to confront the life she has had.
