Concert Review Tatiana DeMaria Is A Badass At Bowery Electric
Tatiana DeMaria is a big heart and a bad ass. She takes on the stage with a full command that is admirable. She tosses her water bottle, rubs her boobs, and calls her audience a batch of “c*nts” for laughs. Yet, her “freshness” in mouth goes both in language and vocality. At Bowery Electric, she left me challenged to become emboldened.
Part of Tatiana’s appeal is that she is the most confident, brazened woman to take the stage. Herr voice booms and splashes like a fountain pumping the clearest of water. That night she was introducing her newest works with no warm-up, but a woman with Passion, itself, clinging to her notes does not need to practice. Her voices railed through new tracks like, “Too Much” as if to sing was a natural protest. She simply presents tracks like tiny revolutions meant to rise you up, of which she has NO problem kindly riling and routing with the crowd.
When a scotsman in a kilt was talking AUDIBLY with his friends, Tatiana stopped her song and demanded him to buy her a whisky. She was literally mid-way in a soaring note that most of us could only dream of doing and sounding semi- good in a bathroom, when she stopped to call the man out. It took me aback for a reason that is integral to Tatiana’ fabric as a person and artist; she is a woman who confronts male or anyone’s rudeness with a balance of ferocity and good humor. You never know when a guy might want to teach or shame you with his “masculinity”, and her casual vivacity earned her a drink and my stapling of her as a rising, fierce, and femme icon.
In perspective, there a not a lot of women with the bare talent and acoustics prowess of Tatiana De Maria. She echoes the times of Sheryl Crow, Courtney Love, Joan Jett, and Melissa Etheridge, and sums their power into her young, promising present. We need more artists like the ones mentioned, or rather Tatiana, for rising generations that desire a voice that could laughingly say “jacking off” in front of their visiting mom and then put her foot on her audio amp to radiate a note that made her look like the sun hitting a mountain peak. She seemed fearless and had a voice/ indie-punk soundscape that made you feel without fear, as well. For More Information On Tatiana De Maria Click Here.
