Concert Review: Thunderpussy STRIKE At Brooklyn Bowl
Anyone, that fights for the right to be themselves against others’ ridiculous definition of “who you are” and what is “dignity” is all right with me. Plus, I was thinking of changing my name to Vaginal Lightning, so I really wanted to see how that played out. Yet, seeing them at Brooklyn Bowl, I realized that is Thunderpussy; a bunch of really fun people realizing we live in a society that can make the best things “wild” and the worst things acceptable.
We can’t have healthcare for all, but we can have guns. Women can’t have equal pay or access to health but they can have student loans. We can’t buy weed, but we can buy cigarettes and have addicting opioids prescribed to us. Yeah! I make this point because Thunderpussy are an affront to hypocrisy and fake sophistication. They hit the stage like an explosion of sound, energy, and raunch love to prove that, perhaps, the most moral person in the room is the one you don’t let in. The girl with the wild, unkept hair, glitter moon-boots, and a short dress that rides “dangerously” high. She carries wisdom in her mind, even if she carries a wrench in her purse; all points they made in songs such as,
Thunderpussy – Somebody To Love (Live at Pukkelpop)
There is a “follow the leader” type quality to how Thunderpussy encourage a crowd, and it comes with being so gargantuan in essence that you can’t help but follow. They are “that person,” at a wedding, dancing and laughing all night, and, by their presence, making people want to join in and ask the bride where she met her friend. Fun is infectious, especially when it is authentic. You, intuitively, know the difference, and Thunderpussy, similar to Chloe MK, are artists that treat the stage like a playground; understanding that you are, probably, the most genuine version of yourself when you are performing. IRONY! Thus, they jumped around with their instruments, even playing guitar with a bow, and threw themselves on the floor like, they were a bunch of dolls being moves around by an invisible hand. Hence, they gave a performance that made feel like, “Yes, you should be called Thunderpussy.”
Thunderpussy has such power and personality as performers that they appeared like Marvel superheroes. Thunderpussy; Thor’s younger sister whom is determined to open a planned parenthood in every village in Asgard. Yes, I got subtly political in this review, but even in lead singer Molly Sides’ raucous, ravingly beautiful voice helpes listeners realize that if the most dangerous person, in the world, is one who lives in fear then why do we cut those that try to be fearless, particularly the young, creative, and socially oppressed.
