Concert Review: What So Not Is So At Marquee
Marquee New York is such a fascinating space because it shows that nightclubbing is a privilege. There is an exclusivity to its atmosphere that makes you feel like you are in Ibiza, New York. Moreover, it attracts a crowd of high-end eccentrics that want to treat their life like Rolling Stone meets Project Runway: constructing music into the clothed pieces you wear to live. Thus, What So Not felt like the perfect fit.
Three Giphys I Believe Sum Up a What So Not’s Set:
The reason I use these giphys to surmise the vibe of What So Not is because, happily, he is everything we love about DJs. I am constantly discussing how this sector of the music industry is misunderstood or diminished for its power. After all, DJs are some of the richest artists in the world without having to move a single inch from their table. Thus, to outsiders’ minds, they are not deserving of their earnings but, at Marquee, What So Not represented that the dance between strobe lights and neon rhythms is what attracts people like moths to flames. DJ’s are like are more than artists; they are a selection of atmospheres and What So Not is “The Lit Atmosphere.”
As an ambiance, What So Not gives you the luxury of getting down. You are “sophisticatedly” shaking your hips to rhythms and beat drops that fall and align like a Connect 4 competition. For however dolled up or cologned you got, you were going to end up in a sweaty twerk-off over that baseline. And why not? The irony of theclub is that we kill ourselves to look good entering it with the clear knowledge that we will look like we have been killed once leaving it. In a way, What So Not kills ya. You will launch into some full on choreography, and that outfit you were so eager to protect for most of the night will, finally, deserve it resting place: the laundry bin.
MØ – Mercy (Audio) ft. What So Not, Two Feet
As a DJ, the particular charm of What So Not at is that he is super giddy. He approaches his set like a Fresh Prince episode giving you a 90’s vibe of 90210 meets the freakniks. This a street party of wealth, which again matches the Marquee’s vibe. Whether you are rich or not, for a night, at least that one, everyone was acting like it. Thus, What So Not made us feel like a “What So Is.” For More Information On What So Not Click Here.
