Concert Review: Zaz Is A European Icon At Town Hall
In this world, there are so many icons we will never know, and, perhaps, because America is my country, I tend to only believe our legends. Yet, when Zaz walked unto her Town Hall stage, the audience could have gone insane with glee. Patrons stood up like Michelin Man floats, and felt seen and comforted to have the French superstar bring the glory of French music to NYC.
Zaz is a personality. She is a big kid masking as an adult, and you love it. Her energy ignited everyone’s inner child and had the audience eager to dance. “Que Vendra,” “Si c’etait à refaire,” and “Comme ci Comme ça” had the crowd laughing and dancing; with little kids running through the aisles as if they were in the schoolyard. Yet, nobody minded because it felt like a show for the adults. Zaz is the artist your mother or father took you to see, as a kid, because THEY wanted to see them, and, in the end, you fell in love, as well. She is fun, funny, and encouraged by the crowd to stick to French (lol!).
Zaz – Demain c’est toi (Clip officiel)She tried with English, and, though it was a struggle, her message was clear: be loving.“Toute ma vie,” “Sous le ciel de Paris,” and “Un Historia Del Amor” had Zaz revealing how sentimental she is as a person. Her “big kid” energy comes from her giant heart, which, at times, made her teary-eyed in promoting kindness and love amongst others. She has an undeniable playfulness that showed as she belted through octaves and produced a very Sia quality to her voice. Similar to the Aussie-pop icon, Zaz throws her notes like rocks to the sky; combining a jaggedness to her breathiness. She is both aerial and raspy, which induces a fantastical element to her voice and turns her songs into French fables.

Her near two hour set relied on her personality, and her ability to make you stay as she conveyed the highs and lows of being a loving person.
