Diandra Interviews Lemarroy: From The Military To Mexico
In perspective, Lemarroy’s life is like a best-seller: military schools, olympic competitions, and Sony’s first Mexican DJ. WHHHHHAAATTTT! His life is so full of adventures, and he is someone that takes opportunity from the weird positions life has placed him in. An absolute, charming sweetheart, I had a great time learning about life as DJ with Lemarroy.
Diandra: Having both a military and Olympic background, what surprises you about becoming a DJ?
Lemarroy: Going to a military school was helpful in every single way. It taught me how to put discipline in my every day; so it helped me a lot. I don’t know every way, but I know it does. We were very isolated in Indiana, and, when I was five years old, I started playing tennis, and played in the Junior Olympics for Mexico. So I didn’t get to party, but, I think, Mexicans love to party. Like, I have to be honest, my people party a lot.

Diandra: I love that you casually dropped how you were an Olympian.
Lemarroy: A lot of people do not know that. It is this other side of me, and it didn’t work out. But, it taught me a lot. I think the discipline and competitiveness taught me how to be a professional. Being in Mexico, a DJ, it is all about partying and it is hard not to get carried into that. But it showed me how to be more of a professional.
Diandra: How do you feel making a song is like a tennis match?
Lemarroy: That is a really good questions because it really does compare. Every time I am making a song, there is always a point when I am struggling. It always happened to me in tennis, and, suddenly, I didn’t know what I was doing. I could be winning the game, and, suddenly, the other guy started playing better and I wouldn’t know what to do and I would lose. That happens when making music, and it has taught me that you always have to try new things and look for new ways and persevere. It is truly hard. When you get into the production world, you will hit a lot of walls. You will think you know what you are doing, but you are not and then you have to come up with a different plan.

Diandra: What was your favorite part about making Me Gustaria?
Lemarroy: I think it is how it all came together. We saw Chule on Instagram, and we reached out and said, “Hey, we are going to the Latin Grammys!” and whose was, too. We met, had a cup of coffee, and then, for some reason, she was going to LA to record a video for her last single and we were going to LA, as well. We spent 15 hours in the studio, and came up with this song. We went so hard in those 15 hours, and it was amazing. It was amazing to see how it all came together.
Diandra: That is so crazy. Your life is crazy. You went from military school to Olympics to writing songs at the Latin Grammys.
Lemarroy: (he laughs) You know, life is going to put you in so many positions, and you really do have to make the best out of them.
Diandra: Based off of “Me Gustaria,” what would you life in love and relationships?
Lemarroy: For me, I need someone that is out-going and socializes with everyone. Well, right now I am in a 3 year relationships, and I am really lucky. It is going so well. Me Gustaria is about love at first sight, which happened to me. When I was 15, I met this girl in Cancun, and I met her and really like her and enjoyed her and then it was done. It was two days and she left. So it is about really liking someone and having a moment and then letting it go. It is gone.
Diandra: How would you find being a DJ like creating an alter ego?
Lemarroy: It is weird like, I was always a very outgoing person. I was always social and, now, I use that to my advantage. I interact with the people and dance with them. I have always been outgoing and the stage lets me explore that 1000%.

Diandra: Do you think music has taught you to be happier?
Lemarroy: Definitely! For me, festivals are the happiest place on earth. I love music and my goal in life is to share my music and watch people react to it. So, music has definitely taught me happiness.
Diandra: How would you describe a perfect night out?
Lemarroy: A great outfit to start! Then, having a great dinner. Eating tacos and enjoying my family and friends and conversations. Then, I have to go to my three hour set and have a packed house. Then, I go to bed. (he laughs)
