Diandra Interviews Molly Burch: A Sweetheart For Love And Music
There is a nobility to Molly Burch that I noted in her concert and album, Please Be Mine. Her admiration for love, and desire to be true and unfiltered in the journey that this emotion has taken her on is both brave and beautiful. When she sings she is raw and vulnerable, which made very excited to witness her answers/ wisdom in the next few questions.
Diandra: A lot of Please Be Mine is about the longing for love and a partner. Who do you currently miss most? What advice would you give to someone in a long distance relationship?
Molly: I have my love on tour with me right now! So I currently miss our cat Mr. President the most. Dailey (my boyfriend) and I had a long distance relationship for a while. My advice is that if it’s meant to be it’ll be. I think it’s a lot easier to be in a long distance relationship when you know there is a date where one person will move to the other, so it’s not an infinite long distance thing. But who am I to tell you what to do?! They can also be super cool for having alone time and then also a great excuse to go on romantic vacations with your partner.
Diandra: Love seems to be the central theme of not only your music, but music itself. What is it about love that you feel makes it so complex and fascinating to artists/human beings.
Molly: I think love is very common theme to write about. It’s so universal. I based my album surrounding this theme because I was going through many different relationships at the time of writing it and it was a way to help me cope. It fascinates me because I love the idea of singing directly to a specific person and it is so personal.
Diandra: You have been cited for “love advice” saying that “if its meant to be it will be”. Do you feel the same advice goes for your career? Do you think music was your destiny?
Molly: Haha, wow whoops. That was my answer above in the first question! I really do feel that way. I think it’s just a nice thing to think. Hmm. I feel in a way it was my destiny because it’s what I wanted to do and I have worked really hard at it to make it my reality.
Diandra: You have said that growing up you were very shy and insecure. If you could go back in time to a moment when you felt really insecure, what would be your advice to your younger self?
Molly: Oof, I’d tell that poor soul to not be so hard on herself and that it’ll get easier. Gosh, growing up is painful.
Diandra: What are 3 things about yourself that you say, “If you do not know this about me, then you do not know Molly?”.
Molly: (laughs) Haha. 1) I have a terribly embarrassing addiction to soda and sweet drinks in general. 2) I love to be cozy in my house first and foremost. 3) I have anxiety!
Diandra: Your parents work in the movie industry. What is your favorite romantic film, and what did it teach you about romance?
Molly: Hands down, “When Harry Met Sally”. I could watch that on repeat forever. And – It taught me if it’s meant to be it’ll be! Haha.
Diandra: You have cited Nina Simone as an inspiration. If Nina Simone came up to you and asked you to write her a song, besides freaking out (lol), what would be a verse or chorus you would make for this legend?
Molly: I simply couldn’t. Haha. I’m not worthy.
Diandra: You have fallen in love and you have broken up. What did both things to teach you about yourself, and how your capacity to love works?
Molly: When I first met Dailey he taught me what love was. I hadn’t felt it before in a real way. When I broke up with him I feel we both needed that time to gain independence and learn how to love ourselves so we could love each other in a better way.
Diandra: What are three other things that you are interested in, beyond music, but have yet to learn about or explore in terms of your creativity?
Molly: I think what’s most important now is to bring light to what’s going on in the world and how much we have to stand up and help each other. And I hope that will translate in my music to come.
Simple, thoughtful, and super sweet are three terms I would use to describe Molly Burch. The lovely songstress has a bright future ahead that I hope you partake in by seeing her tour, buying her music, or just learning about this great person by Clicking Here.
