Diandra Interviews Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine: Your Creativity Is Your Outlet

I laughed with Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine’s interview. It is light happy, and hopeful, which are three words that, definitely, describe their sound. In a world where darkness is boldly revealing itself, more than ever, we need music to help us reflect on dark times, but also make us dance  with friends to remind us we can feel lighter times, as well. In this interview, the rising, Canadian duo discuss their love for Grey’s Anatomy, stan Pokemon, and agree that creative writing and bottle service can really help you have a good night.

Diandra: How has quarantine helped you rediscover/refreshen your love for music?

Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine: It’s been super introspective. We’ve been getting back to our roots in terms of how we’re creating songs: Jam and I started working with each other remotely via the internet, so this is almost a creative reset getting back to that.

Diandra: What are the most random things that have inspired a song from you?

Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine: Friend’s relationships are always a funny one. We’ve written a few songs about other’s relationships and your always tentative to show your friend who the song is actually about. It’s usually just pretty brutally honest haha.

Diandra: If your music style could be a movie, cartoon, or tv show, which would it be and why?

Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine: Grey’s Anatomy because it’s just incredible and we’ve both seen all of it 300 times.

Diandra: With that question mind, which character do you most think the other is like?

Elijah: Jamie is definitely Derek Shepherd

Jamie: Elijah is Christina Yang.

Diandra: Describe 3 qualities about each other you most enjoy.

Elijah: Jamie is driven, she has an extremely unique writing perspective, and she’s hilarious.

Jamie: Elijah has a weirdly elaborate vocabulary, he never stops learning and is super over analytical.

Diandra: Singing to having fun, what is your favorite memory of a wild, good night out?

Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine: After a show in our hometown Ottawa, we went to a local club and had a night out with 30-40 people we genuinely like. The club was kind enough to give us our own section and bottles, so naturally we got way to drunk and danced way to hard. We love being surrounded by good people and this was exactly that.
Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine – Better Off

Diandra: Singing to love, as well, describe your first crush and what it taught you about love.

Elijah: Hahahahaha. My first crush was a girl (who will remain unnamed lol ) in third grade, we used to pass notes and we intentionally got detention together. BADASS. It taught me that love never changes. When it’s real, the excitement feels the same as it did when I was a kid.

Diandra: If your personality could, literally, be tasted, what would it taste like?

Elijah: I would be mangoes. Great texture and sweet.

Jamie: I would be the most immaculate piece of marinated, seared salmon.

Diandra: What gives you hope for the future?

Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine: The fact that no matter what happens, we can always create. Writing gives us such a necessary outlet.

Diandra: Who are your music influences that most embody music goals?

Elijah: I really respect artists like Lauv. He’s doing something so unique and writes incredible songs mostly independently.

Jamie: Jessie Reyez, Kehlani, Adele. I love all these artists because they’re unforgivably themselves.

Diandra: What were the things you most enjoyed as a kid: from past-times to toys?

Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine: Anything creative. I always enjoyed building things, or drawing. Also, OBVIOUSLY, went through a massive Pokémon phase.

Diandra: What is the kindest thing a fan once told you?

Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine: We had a fan reach out and tell us that her friend had just passed away from cancer, and, before she died, they would listen to our music because it one of the only things that brought happiness into a dark time for them. Thinking about it still makes me go mushy. That’s why we create. The fact that people can feel such an incredible connection to the music gives us more than we can say.
