Yes, I am presenting this Jonaz interview to you as if I am introducing the Dos Equis Man. Yet, in some ways, Jonaz is living like him; he is doing what he wants and enjoying his family. In our interview, we discuss, how he go to this point.
Diandra: How have you been through this pandemic?
Jonaz: On one hand, all this damage it has caused is devastating. It is a catastrophe that will redefine humanity, and, in that, I see some light. This is a moment to really think and become more harmonious. Now, is the time to do things you have never done, learn, and even create something relevant for the times.

Diandra: One thing that has a lot of artists anxious, it is the question to release music? What made you decide?
Jonaz: We could wait till the end of this pandemic, but the question is will this really pass? I don’t think things are ever going to go back to normal so I felt it was useless to get nervous about this release. Moreover, we still can do everything else, besides concerts. We can do interviews and listen to music. We are still in contact with each other. In life, we have to keep going. As humanity, we have never ended: not for an earthquake or a pandemic or a war. I got to this point where I said, “I am ready to give this music to the people.”
Diandra: What attracts you about the 80’s style?
Jonaz: I am 44. I am at a point in my life where I just do what I want. I have my own label, and I don’t really care about what is in style.I have no obligations to anyone and just go where my creativity takes me. So it was nice to create sound that was about reliving the best moments of my life. I think my style does have some retro influences but it is also present. I see it like a collage; it has pieces of nostalgia but the sound is now.

Diandra: Is there anything you loved about the 80’s?
Jonaz: I think I was the first one to have a video game. I had so many and I loved them. My dad got me them. In terms of movies there were so many like, Scarface and Nightmare on Elm Street, and the music was everywhere. It was a time where I had a band and was learning and playing instruments and there are so many great memories.
Diandra: What was the inspiration behind “Cangrejita?”
Jonaz: It is like a hyper-joke. My friends and I live in a town in Monterrey where we are surrounded by mountains. We went to the beach and had an absolute blast, probably, too much fun, even a little mischief. We drank and laughed and made friends with everyone; the song is about how you let your guard down with your community, your people, and have a good time you can’t have with anyone else.
Diandra: Latinos are a party-people!
Jonaz: Definitely! Especially in the summer!
Diandra:How do you define fun?
Jonaz: Now, in this era of my life, fun is being with my wife and staying or going out to a bar and seeing friends. I am at a place where I feel very satisfied and peace right now. I am very grateful. I have entered a part of my life that it is not about certainty or even certain, but I seeing more how beautiful it is to have family and be with the ones you love and do what you love.
Diandra; Has that changed how you approach making music?
Jonaz: Definitely! I think it has made me more analytical and open to seeing my own ideas and manifesting them. It has made me clearer, and I have lost the sort of offensiveness that you have, with your music, when you are younger. I am more enthusiastic to just do and excited to see how I can make things better.
