Diandra Interviews MASN: Reverb From The Sky
There is a joy and hunger MASN to reach the sky of music: in both industry and soundscape. He is 100% right in describing his music like the sky; rhythms shaping and fogging like a cloud over blued lyrics and a voice determined to feel the sun emotionally. Yet, life is about ups and downs, which MASN approaches in song, and, in our interview, discusses how nature and love keep his music grounded.
Diandra: What about Utah’s nature most inspires you?
MASN: I’m inspired by the way it can be so beautiful and, at the same time, it can just kick your ass. It’s very honest and there’s no easy way to get to the top of a mountain, unless, you ride a ski lift.

Diandra If you could attribute your sound style to be like land, ocean, or sky, which would it be and why?
MASN: Sky. It’s very open. I like to use a ton of reverb on my vocals and instrumentals, and that’s a sound I would associate with the sky more than the others. I also just love the sky.
Diandra: What about your personality and core values do you feel your music most captures?
MASN: Vulnerability and intimacy. Although my music lies in the sense that these traits only shine through if I force it, or know you very well, otherwise I’m pretty reserved. However, it’s always in the music.
Diandra: What are the styles and themes you hope to approach with your debut? Does it have a title?
MASN: I approach my weaknesses on it. We’ve got some ideas floating around for the title, but nothing is locked in yet.
MASN – Val!um (Lyric Video)
Diandra What was it like working with Trippie Redd, and what was the inspiration behind “Psycho!”?
MASN: I’ve always been a huge fan of his since the beginning of high school, so it’s super cool to have him on a track. The inspiration behind “Psycho!” comes from a lot of different places, the most prominent being an impromptu house party that got a bit out of control.
Diandra: What is your favorite childhood memory with music?
MASN: Either sitting in my room listening to my dad’s rock CD’s on the boom box or playing with my toy guitars in the driveway as if I was holding a concert.
Diandra: Singing to love and anxiety, what has love taught you about calming down?
MASN: Love is a calm and present feeling. When I’m in that state, my anxiety gets a lot quieter.
MASN – Val!um (Lyric Video)
Diandra: Describe your first crush, and what song of yours most describes it.
MASN: I’d say it was in elementary school. The song that could most describe the feeling would be “Val!um”, but i actually don’t have any songs about it. I think that’s something I should write about.
Diandra: What is your favorite song, you have yet to release from the debut, and why?
MASN: My personal favorite is called “FIRE”. Reason being, I was in a super cool place when that song came to be. I remember writing the initial idea of the song in my manager Cooper’s car, after hearing the beat on YouTube, then we went to a studio later that night in North Hollywood. I had been running around doing meetings and studio sessions nonstop so i was in this weird sleep deprived, half alive state and i kind of liked it. You can hear it in the song.

I’m also so excited for my next song “Hate Me” to come out. That’s another one my favorites.
