Diandra Interviews Patrick Droney: The “State of The Heart”
Listening to Patrick Droney’s State of The Heart, out today, was heartfelt. Yes, that seems like a simple term but Patrick is a simple guy. Throughout the record, his voice feels rustic and homey like, an episode of Fixer Upper; again, a comparison that may seem simple or silly. Yet, like the show, you feel Patrick is trying to build a better home through tracks like, “Chasing You” and “Passerby.” He is a man using his guitar like a hammer with nails, and is trying to put up the frames of his dreams. Thus, his ability to add rawness and humility to desire makes the record feel folksy but blended with hints of catchy pop. In our interview, he discusses how being a child prodigy in music led him to live a life of purpose and see there are no losses: only gains.
Diandra: What is the “state of your heart” right now?
Patrick: I’m excited. Happy to be sharing something with the world.

Diandra: What did you learn about yourself through the creation of this album?
Patrick: Songs always teach me more about myself than I realize. Creating this music ,from the moment of inception to finished production, is a real emotional arc. Add these challenging times, and it’s made for a real period of growth and has taught me to apply grace to my process.
Diandra: The record approaches topics of loss. Describe a moment when you feel like you suffered a loss, but, in time, it became a gain.
Patrick: I like to think that life happens for you, not to you. When you add the sum of all it’s parts, you end up where you’re meant to be, therefore I consider any loss a gain; no matter how hard. It’s better to lean into the process.
Regarding: State of the Heart – Patrick Droney
Diandra: Having so much buzz around you since the age of 12, how do you handle the pressure and the promise of being deemed “the next generations” of stars?
Patrick: The reality is I’ve had an opportunity since a young age to lean into a purpose. I’m standing on many shoulders who have lifted me up along this long journey to the beginning. I try to honor those people the best I can, and I’m just grateful to be making music every day- and hopefully a difference!
Diandra: Music has always been your greatest love. What does it provide you as a person that you wish others did as well?
Patrick: Music is a conversation and you can’t have a conversation without people. So to be honest, I get all I need out of both equally.
