Diandra Interviews Ruuth: Getting Real In Friendships And Songs
Sometimes, your music really does reflect your personality: Sensitive, honest, and meticulous is how Ruuth would describe herself, and it is certainly her vibe in her responses. In this interview, Ruuth cannot hide that she is a romantic that believes love is the greatest thing you can observe: from friendships to lovers and community. Thus, her journey, as an artists and person, has been about figuring out when its real.
Diandra: What past relationship inspired Her?
Ruuth: A relationship I had with a past lover was a very complicated relationship and took me quite some strength to get out of it. This song and its lyrics are probably the most comfortable I could get speaking publicly about that relationship!
Diandra: What are the signs for you that relationship is blossoming versus dooming?
Ruuth: I feel like a relationship is really blossoming when each person feels like they can be themselves and you can trust each other, whereas it’s doomed and toxic wenn trust is put into question and when you change yourself for the other person.

Diandra: Describe your first crush?
Ruuth: My first crush was Leonardo DiCaprio in “Titanic”, not much I can describe other than that he was a heartthrob in that movie! 😍
Diandra: Describe your funniest moment with friends or family?
Ruuth: When my family got our first iMac, I discovered Photo Booth with my friend and we ended up having so much fun together trying out all the different effects. We acted out various scenes using the twirl effects for 4 hours, as well as some of the aquarium and world effects. Whenever I hang out with my friends I still turn to Photo Booth for some good laughs.
Diandra: What has building your career as an artist taught you about independence?
Ruuth: You have to trust yourself a lot as well as move things forward; if there’s no inner drive or ideas, there won’t be a team willing to move with you and, when independent, it’s super important to have a solid team.

Diandra: What are 3 qualities about yourself that you most treasure?
Ruuth: I am sensitive which let’s me truly live in my feelings, I am honest, and I am meticulous 🙂
Diandra: Singing to karma, what is one thing you did that you feel brought you good karma?
Ruuth: Standing up for people who are being bullied or discriminated against is one example. I try my best to also give back as much as I can and minimize my environmental impact on the planet, by biking a lot, sometimes skating, and ride-sharing or walking when I’m in Los Angeles.
Diandra: What were your favorite toys, books, shows, and films as a kid?
Ruuth: I loved the entire Harry Potter series as well as the Chronicles of Narnia, mostly stories that speak of fantastic worlds really speak to me. On the movies side; I prefer drama and romance, like all the Nicholas Sparks’ movies, Intouchables, and more recently, Bohemian Rhapsody!
Diandra: In honor of “All My Friends,” what is one thing you learned about yourself from through a fake friend or frenemy?
Ruuth: From having had a couple fake friends in the past, I learned to keep my close friends circle small, and I make sure that I maintain those relationships carefully and with consistency. I’d prefer to have 5 amazing friends for who I care for, rather than 1000 shallow “friends” who I associate with.

Diandra: If you could dedicate one of your lyrics to love, which one would it be?
Ruuth: The song that probably speaks most towards love as a general topic is “Her;” my other songs mainly speak about finding myself and “personal growth”. That being said, I have plenty of songs coming out that speak of love more positively than “Her,” so I’ll leave it up to my future songs to find a lyric I really resonate with 😉
Diandra: Having traveled as an artist, what is one thing music has taught you on the road?
Ruuth: It’s important to stay curious and be open minded towards different cultures in order to grow and experiment as an artist and human being. Music is a global feeling, and learning to listen and absorb other people’s experiences only makes the music I put out even better! My EP, All My Friends, was created in Stockholm, London, Berlin, New York, and Los Angeles!
Diandra: What is your favorite love story? Why?
Ruuth: The love story between two women in the movie “Carol.” It shows that love is stronger than any laws or bounds we understand, and that it’s impossible to forbid two lovers from being together.
Diandra: If you could have tea with three people in the world, myths, or history? Who would they be and why?
Ruuth: I would love love love to have tea with Egon Schiele (my favorite painter), Cate Blanchett (she’s a big idol of mine and my favorite actress), as well as MØ (such an empowering and funny human being). Not only do I love these people individually, but I think having them all over at the same time would be super cool and make for amazing conversation. *sips tea*
Diandra: With the world in such current chaos, what is one superpower you wish you had to help it?
Ruuth: I wish I could impart the wisdom upon certain human beings’ brains (won’t name them) to have more tolerance and respect towards all cultures and living beings of this world, and being kind towards one another instead of resorting to hatred and violence against each other. It really pains my heart to see people have such a profound hatred for others when we are all just human beings!
