Diandra Interviews Sabino: The Yin of Sound
For Sabino, and his new album Yin, he sees life like two opposing forces, which makes sense. I cannot recall one book or re-telling that does not have an “us vs them.” Even Moby Dick was about a ship versus a massive whale. It doesn’t matter who, what, where, and how life can feel like a series of face-offs, but what happens in the between. When you put the sword and pen down and need to pick up some fun. In our interview, Sabino discusses his goals of creating a sound of “fiesta” and how films influence him to be visionary with music.
Diandra: Why did you choose Yin as an album title?
Sabino: It was about a concept that was very much about image. What does yin and yang mean to you?
Diandra: How do you see music as an exploration of culture and existence.
Sabino: I try to create music about daily issues; the problems of everyday life. I think that this has made people empathize with my music. It is about sharing your personal issues and discussing the actual issues beyond social media or political. I am talking about general issues that tap into ally lives like, trying to decide with your partner whether you are going to have kids.

Diandra: How have you adapted social realities into your music?
Sabino: I think music has been a channel for me to express to certain people how I feel about them. It is a simple purging of all the pent up emotions you can have in a relationship; music helps you say those feelings better than words. Moreover, when people hear the songs they relate to it, which is a beautiful thing.
Diandra: What do you feel Sabino can say about the world that, perhaps, you can’t as a person?
Sabino: I think it changes. As an artist, I project my realties and ideas. In these past few months, I have felt a need to project love and how much we forget how we need it. I think we judge each other too much, and social media has become an online jury. Hence, I want to go more into the realms of love and respect.
Diandra: What one lesson you have learned about love through making Yin?
Sabino: Returning to the concept of Yin and Yang, for good to exist there needs to be evil It is like an equilibrium. Concepts of love come from family, but now that I am traveling more, I am seeing more ideas and ways people define love and how to love each other.
Diandra: In honor of “Peliculas,” what is one movie you wish to transfer into a song?
Sabino: Wooo…. What a good question! There are so many films I would use. The Truman Show is a masterpiece that is so impressive it should be a song.
