Diandra Interviews San Cisco: A Few Flaws, Many Strengths
No one is perfect. You have, probably, heard that line before, and seems to be the motivator for San Cisco’s newest EP, Flaws. From unrequited love to toxic masculinity, San Cisco use 4 songs to embody that flaws are not simply personal: they can be structural, communal, and even universal. So, then what? In our interview, San Cisco’s Jordi Davies discusses how heartbreak and respect can fuel creativity.
Diandra: In honor of Flaws, what do you see are your greatest flaws and your greatest strengths?
Jordi Davies: I asked my girlfriend this question and she thinks I don’t have very good self control. i just self indulge in things I don’t need to. e.g deep fried food, wine ect. She says my strengths are tuning into mine and other peoples emotions.
Me: Loving that he asked his girlfriend! RESPECT!
Diandra: How do you feel music has opened you to see who you are, especially as a music lover that became a music artist?
Jordi Davies: I think I used song writing as a way to unpack what ever it is i’m feeling and usually by the end of the writing process i have worked through what was playing on my mind in quite a methodical way.

Diandra: You sing to sharing your darkness with someone so as to bring it light. What have your relationships taught you about transparency between partners?
Jordi Davies: I think that communication and honesty are probably the most important things in any healthy relationship. You can’t read your partner’s mind and they can’t read yours and any fear around sharing how you really feel about something, ultimately, ends in a shit fight.
Diandra: Singing to love, how would you describe a “real love” and “unrequited love?”
Jordi Davies: Real love is a balanced relationship based on honesty where you understand and respect your partner for who they are and love them unconditionally. Real love shouldn’t be based on a idea of the perfect romance; it’s so different to so many people, I just think it needs to be based around honesty. I feel like a couples councillor right now hahah. I think unrequited love is when someone doesn’t love you as much as you love them or vice versa.
Diandra: Why do you feel heartbreak fuels creativity? Do you feel creativity is the ultimate healing to heartbreak?
Jordi Davies: I never write songs when I’m happy; I’m to busy being happy. It’s the heart ache that makes good lyrics for me. Maybe it’s the over-thinking and self absorptions that comes with sadness. I think it is very healing and every time you sing that song you visit those old, sad moments but they aren’t that sad anymore because you turned them into something other people can appreciate and connect with.

Diandra: Having been together for more than a decade, what do you feel is the biggest growth you have seen in each other?
Jordi Davies: I think our respect for each other as individuals has been our strongest point of growth over the years. Although, we disagree often, at the end of the day we always get back with each other and are there to support each other when times are hard. We are like family.
Diandra: If you could describe each track with 3 words, what would it be: Reasons, Skin, Flaws, and Gone.
Jordi Davies-
Reasons: let it go
Skin: smooth, unrequited love, feels
Flaws: reflection, reckless, breakup
Gone: Hopeless, Christmas, toxic-masculinity
