Album Review: Juke Ross’ Debuts With Chapter 2

I got to interview Juke Ross awhile back, and I 100% believe in him. Like Cautious Clay and Lewis Capaldi, he is adding a twist to our usual concept of troubadours. These men give us modern, love songs that echo 90’s folk-pop, but expand their soundscapes with 2020’s DIY vibe and casual emotiveness. What can we say? We are a generation FILLED with feelings and, if you haven’t seen the world, it is with good reason.

Juke Ross’ Chapter 2 as a debut album is a perfect introduction. He is reaching Adele levels of raw, relationship feelings, and, of course, listeners will be wrapped. His voice is as light as raindrops, but, like rain, you feel multiple droplets of feelings and thoughts fall upon you. His verses and singing are very cinematic. From “”We Never Die” to “Amazing,” you feel like you are with him racing to stop “the one” from getting on her/his flight. He gives you a romantic, adrenaline rush that, no matter how much he slows and simmers his tempo, makes you want to bust out and propose marriage to someone. Yup! Juke Ross makes you move fast (lol!)

I know it sounds strange to say that Ross’ Chapter 2 feels perfect for a teenage, love story but it does. I want to call my friends at Netflix and ask them to use this album for Noah Centineo’s next rom-com because it makes you feel fresh and hopeful through the trials of love and youth. This is is the magic of Ross’ record because it doesn’t make you miss being young and in love. It it present; making you believe that “Tonight Is Love” and you know “Sophia.” I was fascinated by that effect, which explains my comparison of Ross to the prior, fellow artists; he sings as if he longs for the now.
Juke Ross – Amazing (Official Video)

So many albums/ artists play to nostalgia; making you miss the past as if you lost like a pair of keys on your way to your car. Yet, Juke Ross sings to being found in a moment, and exploding with euphoria because you see now is good. Frankly, I can’t WAIT for Juke Ross to tour on this record. It is the type of album that you recite the lyrics and swear you will tattoo its verses so you can say poetry runs through your skin. Ugh! We can be so “deep.” Juke Ross’ Chapter 2 Comes Out June 19.
