Artist Close- Up: Kehlani IS The Future of R&B
I CANNOT BELIEVE Kehlani debuted, technically, this year. To say, she has dominated my speaker, with Jhene Aiko, for the past few years is an understatement. People think I live with them with how much they are on blast, of which I have no problems receiving their royalty checks at my residence. (lol!) Yet, the power of Kehlani, like Ms. Aiko, is that they have found the sexiness in love’s beauty.
Kehlani – Honey [Official Video]
There is no denying SweetSexySavage is a sexy album. It, literally, has the word in its title, and savage is not exactly a “light”, sensual term. Yet, it is the sweet of Kehlani’s debut that saves her from being “another artist” talking about sex. Her voice is gentle and firm all at once, like a rose’s stem, of which allows her to blossom and rouge lyrics that show love could be a cruel invitation. Sure, it can be grand to be in love, but no relationship comes without its work and set of lessons. From “Keep On”, “Not Used To It”, and “Personal”, Kehlani seems to embody every moment we had to tell a love, it is not you…. It’s ME! This might be the oldest excuse for relationship ineptitude, but it not, necessarily, wrong. Sometimes, we cannot give our heart as much or as beautifully as we want to do so for a person we deem worthy of it.
Kehlani – Already Won [Official Audio]
There is always that one person that challenges us because they are so right, and yet we feel so wrong with, for, and to them. Kehlani’s voice and lyrics approach this worthy, “love” topic with an R&B bounce that seems ready-made for clubbing in Year 2050. She is so smooth like classic soul while also being so ahead of her time. For More Information On Kehlani Click Here.
