Album Review: Lewis Del Mar Set Up The Mood For August
I remember seeing Lewis Del Mar perform, and feeling like they represented everything that is MOOD. Music has always been able to set a mood, but it feels like now, more than ever, that is its overt purpose. If before the main goal of a song was to reach for an emotion, now it is to reach for an ambiance, which is like an atmosphere of sentiment. Instead of giving you feelings to imagine a setting, Lewis Del Mar’s August, which comes Out August 21, makes gives you a setting to imagine feeling.
Lewis Del Mar – TV (Official Video)
From its beginning, August glitters, shimmers, and colors with its sound like a Euphoria episode. You imagine Zendaya as Rue giving a monologue of devastation and escapism, which are more than often bound. “Sewers,” “Gloom,” “Fever,” and “Cold Turkey” crack open relationships and situations like one would a pop-up picture book. Each lyric is a new page with a young man popping out and you observing his words and images to further see him as your hero. The narrative feel of this record is not, necessarily, new for Lewis Del Mar, but it does feel amplified. This is the album where the duo solidify themselves as story-tellers, mood-builders, and how both are one in the same.
Lewis Del Mar – Do You Need Me
Maybe, it is because I am a writer, but I have seen that, at the end of the day, physical details are as important as emotional ones. People want to see how green the grass was and how loud the wind blew when your ex texted you “It’s over!” You may laugh, but think about your memories. It is the details of the setting that bring back the emotional situation to your head, and even heighten how you feel about the experience because you can’t believe a rainbow popped up in the sky while you filed for your tax refund. In many ways, Lewis Del Mar understand this dynamic, which is why their soundscapes are a sensory experience. You may listen to tracks like, “Rosalie” and “Bloom,” with your ears but you certainly feel like someone dipped your head into another dimension.

Vocally, Danny Miller leads with a smooth presence, while producer Max Harwood finishes each rhythm with simple shine; realizing that an ambiance is built with effortlessness. Thus, his vocals come off like he has found the balance between reading and singing a note; observing what it emotionally carries while emoting it casually. The result is an album that, again, embodies MOOD! For More Information On Lewis Del Mar Click Here.
