Concert Review: Moon Taxi Make Me Thank Jesus At Bowery Ballroom
Moon Taxi is the literal embodiment of “Happy Birthday!”. You feel born at their concert from how much life they give, and at their Bowery Ballroom show we might as well been eating cake and tossing streamers. Joy is one of the things everyone desperately tries to attain and keep, but for lead singer Trevor Terndrup or, as I now call him, Trevor TURNED UP, it is literally woven into his spirit.
Moon Taxi – All Day All Night
You ever see someone and think, “Why are you so happy?”. They just appear so in love with life and cannot stop smiling, which leaves you both jealous and curious. If we all approached life with the exuberance and happiness that Trevor approached the Bowery stage, I truly believe there would be no war. Laugh all you want but that is how electric this lead singer is in performance. His voice, literally, sounds like Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Ronnie Van Zant and Bob Marley made a vocal stew and he drank it. He has the sandy roads of Zant’s rasped, country vocals and the lax, sweetness of Marley’s. The result is a set of pipes that makes you think you have jumped into a funky bus headed towards space. Tracks like, “Mercury”, “Never Too Late”, and “Morocco” showed that Moon Taxi aim for fantastical lyricism and anthemic sentiment. They make emotions feel like earthquakes shaking your heart with epic melodies and choral hooks that latch on to your brain for permanent residency. From “Year Zero” to “Two High”, you find yourself singing along with the crowd, and watching Terndrup literally bend backwards playing his guitar. Absolutely every member of Moon Taxi plays their heart out and is deeply in tune with every sound they give. The noble intensity of their play is what drives the party feel of their concert. “How ya doin?”, “Still With Me?”, and piercing smiles and glares were tossed into the audience as if to assure no one left the party spirit. How could we? Terndrup makes sure to look into audience’s eyes as if to warmly say, “I know you are here, and I want you to stay!”.Moon Taxi – Year Zero
From a saxophone solo that almost caused a cosmic rift from amazement to one of the best Bob Dylan covers of “All Along The Watchtower”, I think I said “Thank You Jesus!” so much at that concert someone asked me if it was Thanksgiving. It truly was a magnificent show, and you know what? I know that they give that type of energy to each and every show. You cannot muster such dynamism on the spot; it has to be within you, and Moon Taxi have it! For More Information On Moon Taxi Click Here.
