Album Review: OverDoz. Shows Fun & Serious Can Live In The Harmony of 2008
OverDoz. makes their debut in 2008, and prove they are here to sensualize and sensitize Hip Hop with bouncing rhythms and lustfully probative/ socially commenting lyrics. OverDoz. are not here for over-thoughts, but live in the “now” frame. In both verse and sound, their debut is targeted to capsule Hip Hop’s current mainstream/ mind-frames, and ship it into the ears of anyone willing to dance and get down.
OverDoz. – District (Official Video)
OverDoz. is comprised of Kent, Cream, P, and Joon, who became close childhood friends at the age of six, officially forming as a group in 2008. The crew has released four well-received mixtapes including 2013’s Boom. I give you some of this history to explain why there is a feeling of “no over-thoughts” to this record. There is a chemistry and fun that revolves and rotates as each member throws in a perspective/ verse, which can aim from silly to serious. You have tracks like “Rich White Friends”, “District”, “Black Beverly Hills”, and “Manifesto” are just a few of the more socially conscious tracks that push the boundaries of funkadelic rhythms and satirical prose to make sincere, social assessments. There is no denying that OverDoz. is about having a good time, even a naughty one, as seen in “Last Kiss”, “Kush and Red Wine”, and “House Party”. Yet, they also wish to reveal that even how we have and define “good times” has a social stem. Every choice we make comes from a societal teaching and motivation, to which each member of OverDoz. shares simple, flowed examples. From “Karma” to “Secret Sunday” or “2008”, you will dance to their modern Parliament Funkadelic productions meets Jay-Z soundscapes/ aesthetics. Yet, if you give yourself a chance, you might find some nuggets of humor and wisdom in their words.
OverDoz. – Last Kiss (Explicit Version)
Overall, OverDoz. have made a solid debut. They have matched the promise of their mixtapes, and shown their potential is boundless. After 2008, you want to hear more from this group, of which I am POSITIVE you WILL! For More Information on OverDoz. and To Buy 2008 on October 27 Click Here.
