Album Review: I Can Live Forever In Oh Wonder’s Ultralife

For their new album, ULTRALIFE, Oh Wonder delved into life: plain and simple. In perspective, this a brilliant idea. While most artist focus on life according to relationshipa, Oh Wonder have flipped the strategy for their sophomore album to focus on relationships according to life. If anything has “wealth of inspiration”, it is the everyday of human beings, from their subway rides to their choice to look up and see stars.
Oh Wonder – High On Humans

I start my review by saying I love Ultralife. Oh Wonder have an innate, unique capacity to make life feel spectacular in what we think is boring. “High On Humans” is dedicated to the surprising and warm interactions you can have with someone new while rising the train, and “Lifetimes” is about landing on love after a lot of previous landing. If you approach every relationship like a chapter or page in your life, it is easy to understand how, in some ways, every individual person lives many lives in their singular one. With how much we grow, “Overgrown”, and undergo ”Heart Strings”, one person can become twenty different people by the end of their life, and through tracks like, “Me Friends”, “Ultralife”, and “Bigger Than Love”, Oh Wonder electrically captures that. This album has to be the happiest record on things that stump us emotionally. Human connection, from nostalgia to numbness, feels to big for our minds but fits so easily in our hearts. Thus, “All About You” and “Heavy” are like neon art displays of Anthony & Josephine’s vocal chemistry. While most people connect soulfully, these two unite vocally in a way that seem spiritually destined. They are like what a candle is to fire for each other; they give each other purpose and value through harmony, which is something I witnessed in their concert, as well.
Oh Wonder – Heavy

There are so many good albums, which I will review, coming up this week, but Oh Wonder has to be my favorite. Ultralife is a positive album that makes embracing your day feel fun. Positivity can get a “bad rep” and be called cheesy, but there is nothing lame to the vibrancy of Oh Wonder’s Ultralife, which you can buy on July 14 by Clicking Here.
