Artist Close-Up: Raja Kumari Did That In “I Did It”
When asked about what inspired “I Did It,” Raja Kumari said “I have always had to Fight for my art. Instinct, Faith and Perseverance have been my greatest weapons. ‘I Did It’ is an anthem written to remind myself that I can do anything that I set my intention on. It’s a song about believing in yourself at all costs while finding a way to stay authentic to who you are.”
My Response:
I am ALL FOR MY FEMME FEROCITY! And Raja Kumari is giving it tome in DROVES! “I Did It” is the song you blast with your girls after rolling up on some guys acting “big”. From rhythms to swag, Raja Kumari is representing the women that are all about their independence. In this Trump era of “take and take,” without reciprocity, Kumari’s verses not only get you ready for the club, but they make a statement, “I have my own back! So do not EVEN TRY to cross me or my girls! ” Frankly, we all need a song that pumps our confidence, even if for a second. “I Did It” does that.
Raja Kumari – I Did It
With a voice that can carry its own bounce, Kumari literally ping pongs her notes into a seductive flow. Yet, again, her seduction comes with the confidence of knowing, “I did everything for myself!” It is not easy to reach for your dreams because, usually, it is a solo effort. Yet, when you get to them, you will realize why stars stand separately in their shared night sky; though they may live in the same space, they were meant to have their own light. Hence, drawing on insightful parallels between Mumbai-bred street anthems and New York and LA’s early hip hop scenes, Raja Kumari’s music as a solo artist has made her a star in India, and I am ready for her U.S. CROSSOVER!
