Artist Close-Up: Balaciaga Has Got Me Feeling Like Balenciaga

I get a LOT OF ARTISTS! In part, because I never charge to cover someone. I never look at your social media following to determine if you are ¨worthy,¨ and I never assume that where you are today is any indication to where you will be tomorrow. In every moment, you are an artist with enough star quality for me to recognize your sky. Balaciaga is the FREAKING MOON!

I love discovering a new artist that just oozes and drips with a level of talent, sound, and determination that you feel flattened by them. You hear her discography, and you do know who she is and who she can become, and I do not mean that to be predictive. On the contrary, I said it: you never know who will listen to you tomorrow or how many. Yet, that feeling of consistency, as if your work has an essence and a thread,  cannot be denied as super exciting. 

When I first heard her, I thought…. Great! Fantastic! Showstopping! I became the Lady Gaga meme because it felt so rich to hear someone before so many realized they are gold. Her music is a melodic balance of chill and energetic: completely relying on your mood to either turn up or turn down. Yet, either way, it is the same song: perfectly see-sawing her rhythms and raps to enwrap you. Frankly, I love her sound, and can totally see labels like Def Jam or Island scooping her up and giving her the team needed to assure that, as the moon, she gets the sky.
