Album Review: GUM Is “Out In The World”

Gum’s OUT IN THE WORLD is GROOOOOVVVVYYYYY! It feels as if God sent you text to meet him at the disco because Jesus just turned a whole bunch of water to wine, and we are about to get LIT! Imagine that level of vibes.

From “Airwalkin” to “Low To Low,” it is hard not t want to o snatch up a Shea Coulee, rhinestone bodysuit so that you can shimmy your shoulders and hips  and leave everyone gagged on the dance-floor. There is a certain joy to this record that makes it standout from the weird, music bubble this pandemic/the protests  has spurred in artists. Some don’t know whether to release a song, and whether it should be happy or sad. Yet, I have found you need enjoy life, in order, to know why you fight for it and gain strength to do so.

Out In The World is very dreamy, which, in its own way, is new for GUM. The Tame Impala alum dabbles in his own form and structure of psychedelia; known for shaping and fragmenting rhythms like a kaleidoscope. Yet, this record does not feel like a trip as much as a fantasy. You are not opening doors of the mind as much as shaking down the house with so GOOD beats. I was pleasantly surprised, and happy that, for a moment, Out In The World made feel like I was flying through a world that was feeling vibrant.

Vocally, GUM allows his beats to shine; placing his soft voice like a rope, you grab on, and he pulls you through ocean of sounds. The result is a record that is really special and one to play when you want some escapism. Click Here To Buy GUM’s Out In The World!
